Introduction: Branding Is More Than Just A Logo

When most people think of branding, they think of a logo. A clean design, a catchy tagline, maybe a consistent color scheme. But here’s the truth: branding goes much deeper. It’s not about how your business looks on the surface—it’s about how your business is felt.

At Dexignhub, we’ve seen too many companies stop at the logo stage. And while a great logo is important, it’s just the beginning. True branding is about telling a story, creating consistency, and building trust. It’s about turning a business into a name people remember and respect.

What Branding Really Means (and Why It Matters)

Think of the brands you love—Nike, Apple, Jollibee. What comes to mind first? It’s not just their products. It’s their story. Their message. Their promise.

Nike sells motivation, not just shoes.

Apple sells innovation, not just gadgets.

Jollibee sells joy and family connection, not just fried chicken.

That’s branding. It’s the emotional connection between you and your audience. It’s how people feel when they hear your name, see your ads, or walk into your store.
For companies in the Philippines and beyond, branding is no longer optional—it’s survival. In a crowded marketplace, the brands that stand out aren’t the cheapest or the flashiest. They’re the ones with a strong identity that customers can connect to.

The Dexignhub Approach to Branding

At Dexignhub, we don’t believe in cookie-cutter solutions. Every brand has its own DNA, its own voice, and its own potential. Our job is to uncover that and bring it to life.
Here’s how we do it:

1. Discovery: Finding Your Story
We start with questions, not designs. Who are you? What do you stand for? Who are your customers, and what do they care about? We dig deep into your “why” because a strong brand begins with clarity.

2. Strategy: Defining Your Identity
Once we understand your story, we build the foundation:

Brand Voice – Are you formal and authoritative? Friendly and approachable?

Core Values – What do you stand for beyond profit?

Positioning – What makes you different from everyone else?

This step ensures that your brand identity isn’t just beautiful—it’s consistent and strategic.

3. Design: Bringing It to Life
This is where visuals come in—logos, typography, colors, and imagery. But unlike many agencies, we don’t just design for looks. We design for meaning. Every shape, shade, and font has a purpose that ties back to your story.

4. Implementation: Making It Real
A brand isn’t built in a file. It’s built in action. We create brand guidelines and help you apply them across your website, social media, ads, packaging, and customer experience. This ensures your brand feels the same everywhere.

5. Evolution: Growing With You
Brands aren’t static. They grow, shift, and evolve. We stay with you as a partner, ready to refresh your branding when the market changes or your business expands.

Why Businesses Struggle With Branding

Many businesses in the Philippines fall into the trap of thinking branding = logo. They hire a freelancer to design a logo, post it on Facebook, and think the job is done. But soon they realize:

Their messaging feels inconsistent.

Their customers don’t “get” them.

Their visuals look different on every platform.

Competitors with stronger branding steal the spotlight.

The result? They look like just another option in the market instead of the option.
This is where Dexignhub steps in—to turn that inconsistency into clarity and recognition.

Real-World Example: Building Brand Recognition

Imagine a startup café in Cebu. They have great coffee, but foot traffic is slow. Their signage looks homemade, their social media posts don’t follow a theme, and their message is all over the place.
When Dexignhub steps in, we don’t just design a prettier logo. We help them:

Clarify their story: “Coffee with community at heart.”

Create a visual identity inspired by local textures and colors.

Develop a tone of voice for social media that’s warm and conversational.

Apply the same look and feel across their menus, packaging, and website.

Suddenly, customers don’t just remember the café—they recognize it. They recommend it. They connect with it. That’s the power of branding done right.

Branding in 2025: What’s Changing

Branding in 2025 is no longer about static visuals—it’s dynamic and digital. Here are key trends Dexignhub is already integrating:

Interactive Branding: Logos and designs that move or adapt across platforms.

Cultural Relevance: Brands rooted in Filipino identity and local storytelling resonate more deeply.

Digital Consistency: With social media, e-commerce, and websites, a brand must feel seamless everywhere.

Sustainability and Purpose: Customers expect brands to stand for something beyond profit.

Why Work With Dexignhub for Branding?

Because we’re not just designers—we’re storytellers, strategists, and partners. We’ve worked with clients across industries, helping them build brands that are memorable, relatable, and future-ready.
We don’t just give you a logo. We give you a brand identity that:

Speaks to your audience.

Differentiates you from competitors.

Builds trust and loyalty over time.

Conclusion: Your Brand Is Your Legacy

At the end of the day, branding is not decoration—it’s destiny. It’s the difference between being forgotten and being remembered. Between being an option and being the choice.
At Dexignhub, we’re here to make sure your brand doesn’t just exist. It thrives.
Ready to define your brand story? Let’s build it together.

Introduction: Kwento Is in Our DNA

Every Filipino has a kwento to share. From bedtime stories told by our lola, to kwentuhan sessions with friends during a fiesta, storytelling has always been at the heart of how we connect. Stories shape how we see the world, how we remember our past, and how we dream of the future.

At Dexignhub, we believe that storytelling isn’t just a tradition—it’s the secret ingredient that makes Filipino brands powerful. In a country where culture is built on shared narratives, businesses that know how to tell their story stand out, win loyalty, and inspire trust

Storytelling as the Heart of Filipino Culture

Filipino culture is woven together by stories. Before books and smartphones, we passed down knowledge through alamat (legends), epiko (epics), and folk tales. These weren’t just entertainment—they were lessons in values, history, and community.

Take the story of Malakas and Maganda, which explains not just the creation of man and woman, but also the Filipino sense of balance and harmony. Or the tales of Juan Tamad, which still serve as humorous warnings against laziness. These stories live in our consciousness because they’re part of who we are.

Fast forward to today, and you’ll see the same pattern. The reason Jollibee’s Valentine’s Day ads go viral every year is not just because they sell food—it’s because they sell feelings. They remind us of love, family, and sacrifice. The power of a story lingers longer than a product.

Why Storytelling Works Better Than Selling

When was the last time you bought something because of its features alone? Probably never.
That’s because people don’t buy products. They buy emotions. They buy belonging. They buy into stories that make them feel seen.

Emotions Over Features
A phone may have the latest specs, but what sells it is the story of connection—how it lets you video call your OFW relative or capture your child’s first steps.
The same is true for brands. Filipino consumers, in particular, gravitate toward stories that reflect family ties, bayanihan, and resilience. It’s less about what the product is and more about what the product means.
When brands stop “selling” and start “storytelling,” they stop being noise in a crowded market and start being a voice that matters.

What Brands Can Learn from Filipino Storytelling

1. Authenticity Is Non-Negotiable
Filipinos can spot a fake story a mile away. Authenticity matters because our culture values truth, even when it’s imperfect. Brands that own their flaws and tell real stories win respect.

2. Relatability Builds Connection
The best stories are the ones that feel close to home. Ads about nanay’s cooking, the thrill of a barkada trip, or the joy of sending a balikbayan box connect because they reflect lived experiences.

3. Legacy Creates Loyalty
Storytelling turns history into identity. When a brand shares its journey—how it started, what challenges it overcame—it doesn’t just sell products. It builds a legacy that customers want to be part of.

The Dexignhub Approach to Brand Storytelling

At Dexignhub, we don’t just design visuals or create campaigns. We build brand stories. Our approach is deeply rooted in understanding what makes a business unique and then shaping that into a narrative that connects with people.
When we work with clients, we don’t just ask, “What do you want your logo to look like?” Instead, we ask:

“What’s your why?”

“Who are the people you want to reach?”

“What stories will they remember about you five years from now?”

From there, our designers, marketers, and storytellers collaborate to craft visuals, websites, and campaigns that feel like stories. Whether it’s through video content, social media campaigns, or a full rebrand, we design not just to be seen but to be remembered.

How to Build Your Brand Story (Practical Steps)

Here are steps any business can take to start crafting their narrative:

1. Find Your Core Message
Every brand has a “why.” Dig deep into your mission and values. Ask yourself: If my brand was a person, what story would it tell?

2. Know Your Audience
What stories matter to your customers? A family-run café might highlight nostalgia, while a tech startup may focus on innovation.

3. Choose Your Medium
A story can live in many forms—videos, graphics, blogs, or even TikTok. What matters is consistency and clarity.

4. Stay Consistent
A brand story isn’t a one-time campaign—it’s a continuous narrative. Keep your message alive across all touchpoints.

The Future of Storytelling in Filipino Branding

As we move into 2025 and beyond, digital platforms, AI, and interactive media will change how we tell stories. But one thing remains timeless: the human need for connection.
Filipino consumers will always resonate with brands that echo their values—family, resilience, humor, and hope. The brands that can merge new technology with timeless storytelling will dominate the future.

Conclusion: Your Brand Is Your Story

Storytelling is not just a marketing tool—it’s the soul of your brand. For Filipinos, stories are not optional. They are how we live, love, and remember.
At Dexignhub, we believe every brand has a story worth telling. And when told right, it can transform businesses into legacies.
Ready to share your story with the world? Let Dexignhub help you craft it.

Introduction: Business in Your Pocket

Remember when having a website was “optional”? Fast forward to today — if you don’t have one, your business might as well not exist. The same shift is happening with mobile apps.

Customers expect brands to live in their pockets. Whether they’re booking a resort, ordering food, or paying bills, they want speed, simplicity, and convenience — all from their phones.
At Dexignhub, we don’t just build apps. We build digital ecosystems that fit in the palm of your customer’s hand.

Why Mobile Apps Are Non-Negotiable in 2025

1. Mobile-First Audiences in the Philippines
Over 75% of internet traffic in the Philippines comes from smartphones. If your business doesn’t meet them there, you’re missing the majority of your market.

2. Customer Loyalty
Apps create stickiness. It’s easier for a customer to tap an icon on their home screen than to Google your business every time.

3. Instant Communication
Push notifications allow you to engage with customers in real-time — a direct line that email or social media can’t match.

4. Data Advantage
Apps let you track customer preferences, behaviors, and patterns. That means smarter marketing and more personalized offers.

Dexignhub’s Approach to Mobile App Development

Unlike agencies that churn out cookie-cutter apps, we treat each project as a business tool, not just software.

Here’s our process:

1. Discovery & Strategy
We ask:

What business problem should this app solve?

Who is your target audience?

What features will deliver the most value?

Example: A client in the F&B industry initially wanted a “fancy-looking app.” Through discovery, we found their bigger issue was order management and repeat customers. We designed an app with loyalty rewards and seamless reordering — solving the real problem, not just the surface.

2. UX-First Design
We don’t just code features; we design journeys.

Easy onboarding.

Frictionless navigation.

Clean, intuitive UI.

Mobile-first experience.

3. Agile Development
We use an agile methodology — building in sprints, testing, and refining. This means faster launches, fewer surprises, and a product that adapts to feedback.

4. Integration & Scalability
Our apps aren’t standalone. We integrate with payment systems, CRM platforms, booking tools, and more. Plus, we future-proof — so when your business grows, your app grows with it.

5. Post-Launch Support
Too many agencies disappear after the app is published. We stick around, offering:

Bug fixes.

Feature updates.

Performance optimization.

Because an app isn’t “done” at launch — it’s a living product.

Types of Apps Dexignhub Builds

1. E-commerce Apps
Seamless shopping experiences with integrated payment gateways.

2. Hospitality & Booking Apps
Resorts, hotels, and events with direct booking (cutting out OTAs).

3. Fintech & Payment Apps
Secure, user-friendly platforms for transactions.

4. Corporate Productivity Apps
Internal tools to streamline workflows and collaboration.

5. Lifestyle Apps
Food delivery, fitness, or loyalty-based experiences.

Common Pitfalls in Mobile App Projects

1. Building Without Strategy
Many businesses create apps just to “have one.” Without a clear purpose, the app quickly becomes irrelevant.

2. Ignoring UX
A clunky, confusing interface drives users away — no matter how powerful the backend is.

3. Overloading Features
More features don’t mean more value. Apps should be lean, focused, and user-driven.

4. Skipping Post-Launch Support
An app that isn’t updated becomes outdated. Fast.

The Dexignhub Difference

So, why trust Dexignhub for mobile apps?

Business-First Approach: We start with your goals, not just features.

End-to-End Support: From strategy to launch to growth, we stay with you.

Scalable & Secure: Our apps grow with your business.

Proven Across Industries: Hospitality, fintech, retail, lifestyle — we adapt to your world.

The Future of Mobile Apps in 2025–2026

1. AI-Powered Personalization
Apps will predict what users want before they even tap.

2. Super Apps
One app for everything (payments, shopping, booking) is rising in Asia.

3. Voice & Gesture Interfaces
Typing is out. Talking and swiping are in.

4. AR & VR Experiences
Imagine trying on clothes virtually or touring a hotel room before booking — apps will deliver this.

Final Thoughts

Mobile apps aren’t a luxury anymore — they’re the frontline of customer engagement.

At Dexignhub, we believe the best apps are the ones that disappear into people’s lives — easy, intuitive, and indispensable

Because in 2025, your app isn’t just an extension of your business. For many of your customers, it is your business.

Introduction: First Impressions Are Everything

You know that saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Unfortunately, in digital spaces, people absolutely do.

Your website, mobile app, or platform has only 7 seconds to make an impression. If users get confused, frustrated, or unimpressed, they leave — often for good.

At Dexignhub, we see UI/UX (User Interface & User Experience) as more than just “making things look good.” It’s about making them work beautifully.

Think of UI/UX as the bridge between your customer and your business. If the bridge is shaky, confusing, or ugly, customers won’t cross it.

What Is UI/UX Design? (And Why It’s Not Just Pretty Screens)

UI (User Interface)
This is the visual layer: colors, typography, buttons, layouts, and interactions. It’s how your brand looks and feels.

UX (User Experience)
This is the journey: how easy it is for someone to complete an action, whether booking a resort, buying a product, or filling out a form.
Together, UI and UX determine whether your digital presence delights customers or drives them away.

Why UI/UX Matters in 2025

1. Customer Expectations Have Changed
People don’t compare your site to your competitor anymore — they compare it to global giants like Airbnb, Amazon, and Apple. If your digital experience feels outdated, they’ll notice.

2. Attention Spans Are Shrinking
If users can’t find what they need in seconds, they bounce.

3. Conversions Depend on Design
A confusing checkout flow or cluttered interface can kill sales. A clean, frictionless experience increases conversions.

Dexignhub’s Approach to UI/UX

We don’t do “one-size-fits-all.” Our UI/UX process is human-centered, data-driven, and tailored to each client’s needs.
Here’s how we work:

1. Research & Discovery
We begin by understanding your users:

Who are they?

What frustrates them?

What motivates them?

Example: A client in the hospitality industry came to us with a high website bounce rate. Through user interviews and analytics, we found the booking process was too complicated. Guests had to click through 6 pages just to confirm a room.

2. Wireframing & Prototyping
Before designing, we map the journey. Think of it like sketching the blueprint before building a house.

We create low-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes so you can experience the flow before committing to design.

3. User-Centered Design
We combine aesthetics + usability:

Clean, modern layouts.

Consistent branding.

Accessibility (so everyone can use your platform).

Mobile-first design (because most of your customers are on their phones).

4. Usability Testing
We don’t guess. We test.
Real users try the product before launch. We see where they struggle and fix it. This prevents costly mistakes after deployment.

5. Continuous Improvement
UI/UX isn’t a one-time project. Customer behavior evolves, trends shift, and technology changes. We help clients keep their designs fresh and effective.

Common UI/UX Mistakes Businesses Make

1. Designing for the Boss, Not the Use
Your customers, not your CEO, should define the design direction.

2. Overloading Features
More isn’t better. Simplicity wins.

3. Ignoring Mobile
In the Philippines, over 70% of internet traffic is mobile. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re losing most of your audience.

4. Inconsistent Branding
Mismatched fonts, colors, and styles confuse users and weaken trust.

The Dexignhub Difference

So, what makes Dexignhub’s UI/UX approach stand out?

We Mix Creativity + Strategy: Our designers don’t just design — they think like marketers.

We Prioritize Conversions: Every button, every flow, every animation serves a purpose: to guide users toward action.

We Adapt to Industries: From hospitality to fintech to retail, we customize design solutions for each sector.

We Keep It Human: Technology can be intimidating. We design experiences that feel intuitive and human-centered.

Case Example: Simplifying to Increase Conversions

A retail client had an e-commerce app with too many steps at checkout. Cart abandonment was 65%.

Dexignhub redesigned the flow from 5 steps to 2. Within 3 months, the client saw a 40% increase in completed purchases.

The Future of UI/UX in 2025–2026

1. Personalization Will Dominate
Users expect experiences tailored to them — from suggested products to localized content.

2. AI + UX
AI tools are predicting what users want before they click.

3. Micro-Interactions Matter
Tiny animations and feedback (like a button glow) create delightful experiences that keep users engaged.

4. Inclusive Design
Accessibility isn’t optional anymore — it’s essential.

Final Thoughts

Your business doesn’t just need a website or an app — it needs an experience.

UI/UX isn’t about pretty screens. It’s about creating journeys where customers feel understood, respected, and delighted.
At Dexignhub, we believe the best design is invisible — because when it works, your customer doesn’t notice the design. They just enjoy the experience.

Introduction: The Overcrowded Digital World

Let’s face it — everyone is online in 2025.

Your competitors are running ads, influencers are promoting brands, TikTok is flooded with campaigns, and customers are bombarded with thousands of marketing messages every single day.

So the real question isn’t “Should my business do digital marketing?” It’s:

“How do I make my digital marketing stand out and actually drive results?”

At Dexignhub, this is exactly where we come in. Digital marketing isn’t about throwing money at Facebook ads or boosting posts. It’s about building integrated strategies that connect, engage, and convert.

This article will break down how we approach digital marketing, the mistakes many companies make, and what makes our strategy different.

What Are Digital Marketing Services? (And Why Do They Matter?)

Digital marketing services include everything a business does online to reach and influence customers — from social media to SEO, from paid ads to email campaigns.

But here’s the catch: It’s not about doing everything. It’s about doing the right things.

At Dexignhub, we help businesses focus on what really moves the needle:

Getting seen (visibility).

Building trust (authority).

Driving action (conversion).

Why Digital Marketing in 2025 is Different

1. Attention is Scarce
People scroll fast, skip ads, and filter content. You only have a 3-second window to grab attention.

2. Trust is the New Currency
Customers are skeptical. They don’t just want ads — they want authentic stories, real experiences, and brands they can relate to.

3. Data-Driven Wins
The brands that win are those that measure, analyze, and adapt. Guesswork is out. Smart, data-backed marketing is in.

Dexignhub’s Digital Marketing Services

1. Branding That Resonates
Digital marketing starts with a strong foundation: your brand.

We help you create a clear brand voice.

We design visuals that align with your message.

We ensure consistency across every touchpoint.

Example: A client once came to us with a confusing brand identity — five different logos, inconsistent color palettes, and a messy online presence. Within two months of rebranding, their online engagement doubled because customers finally recognized them.

2. Social Media Marketing That Builds Communities
We don’t just post pretty pictures. We design social ecosystems that drive conversations.

Our approach:

Identify platforms where your audience actually hangs out (Facebook, IG, TikTok, LinkedIn).

Create content calendars that mix education, entertainment, and engagement.

Encourage user-generated content to turn customers into brand advocates.

3. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
If you’re not showing up on Google, you’re invisible.

We optimize your website to:

Rank for relevant, high-intent keywords.

Drive organic traffic that converts.

Position your business as an industry leader.

4. Paid Advertising (PPC)
Running ads is easy. Running ads that actually deliver ROI is hard.

Dexignhub runs targeted campaigns on Google, Meta, and TikTok with:

Smart audience targeting.

Compelling creatives.

Data-driven adjustments.

Story: One of our clients used to spend ₱200,000 monthly on ads with little ROI. After Dexignhub’s strategy overhaul, they achieved 3.5x return on ad spend within 90 days.

5. Content Marketing & Storytelling
We believe in the power of stories. Blog posts, videos, infographics — content that educates and inspires always outperforms hard selling.
That’s why we help brands become publishers of valuable content, not just advertisers.

6. Email & Automation
Many businesses think email is dead — but in reality, it’s still one of the highest ROI channels.

Dexignhub designs email funnels that:

Nurture leads.

Drive repeat purchases.

Automate follow-ups so you never miss an opportunity.

Mistakes Businesses Make in Digital Marketing

1. Focusing Only on Ads – Ads work, but they’re expensive without organic strategies backing them up.

2. Chasing Trends Blindly – Jumping on every trend makes your brand look inconsistent.

3. Ignoring Data – If you don’t measure results, you’re wasting money.

4. Trying to Do It All Alone – Digital marketing requires expertise in multiple areas. Without a team, things fall through the cracks.

Why Dexignhub?

Integrated Approach: We look at your brand holistically, not just one campaign.

Creative + Tech: Our team blends design, strategy, and analytics seamlessly.

Local Expertise: We understand the Philippine market — cultural nuances, consumer behavior, and industry challenges.

Global Standards: While local at heart, we apply global best practices in strategy and execution.

What Digital Marketing Success Looks Like

For Dexignhub clients, success is:

Seeing a steady flow of qualified leads.

Reducing dependency on one channel (like OTAs or just Facebook ads).

Building a loyal community that advocates for their brand.

Turning marketing into an investment, not an expense.

Final Thoughts: The Future is Strategic

Digital marketing isn’t going away. In fact, it’s becoming the backbone of how businesses grow in 2025 and beyond.

The businesses that thrive won’t be the loudest — they’ll be the smartest.

At Dexignhub, we don’t just create campaigns. We create systems that keep working, even when you sleep.

The question is: Are you ready to cut through the noise?

Storyboards can help you visualize different projects, like sales pitches, animations, and movie storyboards. In this article, we’ll discuss UI storyboards, particularly, and give some storyboard examples from which you can take inspiration.

If you’re looking to get stuck into creating your first one already, we’ve made a step-by-step guide to storyboarding for that.

Wrap-up

Let’s start with the basics.

1. What is a UI storyboard?

A UI storyboard is a visual representation of the user interface of your website or product. The storyboards make it easy to visualize user interaction with your product.

This simplifies your work as a UI designer because your visual user story gives you a clear idea of how to create your product. It also saves you time because you avoid the trial-and-error cycle in the product creation process.

If you want to learn more about them, we’ve created a full beginner’s guide to storyboards.

Besides this, there are other benefits of storyboarding, which include:

Identifying key design elements

By visualizing your user’s experience, you can overcome personal biases and prioritize the critical design elements that will solve the user’s pain points.

Helping you pay more attention to your product

With your design on paper or a digital storyboard, it is easy to note mistakes, problem areas, or gaps in your user story. It is also easy to note different scenes that make your storyboard clearer.

Boosting your creativity

Visual representation has also been proven to encourage creativity, especially since humans process visual art or data 60,000 times faster than we do text. As a result, you are more likely to develop a better product.

Ensuring a good presentation

Explaining your digital product ideas to your clients is easy, since they can see them on the storyboard. Again, this is way easier to comprehend than the text-only script.

2. Types of UI storyboard

You can use different storyboard styles to visualize your UI storyboard. Here are the three popular methods you should familiarize yourself with, as well as some storyboard examples to go with it:

Traditional storyboarding style

This is the most popular storyboarding method.

It was the storyboard style used for animated films like Mickey Mouse and other Walt Disney productions in the past, but it is used to date. The method consists of the drawing of rough sketches, as shown in this example:

Source: StoryboardThat

As you can see in this storyboard example, the creator uses stick-figure sketches. You can also see the character’s emotions. The captions make the design easy to understand.

Digital storyboarding style

This style of storyboarding is more modern and uses special storyboarding tools.

Digital storyboarding software allows you to start from a basic design, but you can also use pre-designed templates.

Then you can add more modern elements like a voiceover or motion, which is very common in UI storyboard examples.

Here’s one of these at work:

Source: Sara Eldebissy on Behance

This is a storyboard of the off-bucket app project.

The storyboard follows the main character, who gets a challenge idea and sends it to a friend. The friend receives the challenge, accepts it, and they both meet up to do the challenge. The whole thing is a great example of flat design at work.

Thumbnail storyboarding style

Much more old-school, these storyboards are done on paper.

However, unlike the traditional ones, these are not hyper-detailed storyboards. Here’s an excellent thumbnail storyboard example:

Source: Cheryl Platz on Medium

This specific storyboard is a rough sketch representing a multi-environment, connected-device scenario for Windows Automotive.

Most thumbnail UI storyboard examples are rougher sketches of traditional storyboards drawn in small sizes. They only take a maximum of two sheets of paper. You can use a thumbnail storyboard as a draft before you make a refined traditional storyboard.

Your choice of UI storyboard style is determined by your personal preference, a project’s need, or the client’s requirements.

3. How do you make a UI storyboard?

Before making your storyboard, ensure you have a project script and understand the user scenario you want to create.

That defines your entire storyboarding process and makes it easy to decide the type of storyboard to use.

Once you have that, you can get down to making your storyboard, which you can do by following these steps:

Segment your script

First, divide your story into different stages. That makes it easy to develop sequence ideas.

Use your script to get this step right, and add notes and scene ideas. The notes and ideas should be details that help you create a quality storyboard and product later. For instance, you could note website design best practices if you’re working on a website.

Curious about a career in UI design?

Create panels

Then for each stage, create panels that represent an individual shot or scene on a blank storyboard. They can either be rectangular or square. Here’s an excellent example of panels:

Source: G A R R on Behance

The specific panel style shown in the storyboard example above is rectangular. Also, note that the panels are separated by white spaces. This differentiates the panels and also makes the panels look neat.

Sketching

The next step is sketching your panels. How you do this depends on the UI storyboarding style you chose.

You don’t need to create complex sketches. As long as they represent your idea, you should be fine.

Also, remember the notes you made on your script earlier on? You can refer to them whenever you get stuck in this stage.

Arrange panels and add scene details

The final step is arranging your panels in chronological storyboard format and filling in the details for each scene. If you use the digital storyboard style, you can arrange panels on the storyboarding software, like in the following example:

Source: GraphicMama

But for the hand-drawn storyboard, you will have to pin your panels to a poster board.

Once you’ve arranged your scenes, you can add descriptive captions, titles, numbers, or other guiding details. If you are the design project lead, you could develop a style guide to help your team members master each project’s voice and tone.

Second opinions

When you’re done with your storyboard, share it with at least one other person and request feedback.

It could be a production team member or other colleagues. Then, you can modify your sketches or panels to match the input. If you were pitching to a client, you can present it to them afterward.

A good storyboard will result from the excellent execution of every step. That’s because, with storyboards, each step determines how well the next works out.

4. Some tips for making a great storyboard

Storyboarding is an engaging and rewarding process, but only if you do it right. To help you get it right, here are some of our best tips borrowed from various UI storyboard examples:

Fully understand and consider your user focus. Be clear on who your audience is, and adjust your tone, setting, and storyboard outlook to match this. That will make it easier to create good user scenarios.

Ensure your scenes are arranged chronologically. That prevents disjointed scenes and smooth transitions between shots and scenes. For instance, if you’re working on a storyboard with multiple characters, have scenes that explain how and why they need to be together.

This Heartline app storyboard is a great example. It explains how the characters are related through descriptive scenes and captions. There are also multiple close-up sketches that show more product details, making the story easy to follow.

Next, ensure your storyboard is easy to understand. The best way to do this is by ensuring your sketches outline the problem and the solution your product is solving. For instance, say you are designing a plane booking platform.

You need to show the problem users are having with booking planes and how your product solves that. Also, use simple language for your scene details to make your storyboard more comprehensible.

Finally, invest in storyboarding software to streamline your process. You are also more likely to create a beautiful storyboard with the help of software because you have ready-made UI storyboard templates.

5. Four UI storyboard examples

So far, you already understand the UI storyboarding concept and what makes a good storyboard.

UX and UI: Two terms that are often used interchangeably, but actually mean very different things. So what exactly is the difference?

We’ve all overheard conversations, walking down hip streets of the world’s tech capitals, discussions about the great ‘UX’ of a product, or the poor ‘UI’ of a website. Is it a secret language you will never be privy to? Are these people just using slang to look cool?

Well, okay, probably yes to the latter, but a determinate NO to the rest. If you’re keen to learn what exactly UX and UI mean and how they differ, you’ve come to the right place. Below is a breakdown of what we’re going to cover in this article.

Read on to learn what the terms UX and UI even mean, which of the two areas of design are better paid, and how to become a UX designer or UI designer.

1. What are UX and UI in the first place?

First things first: What do UX and UI actually mean? The people you have eavesdropped on are actually discussing two professions that, despite having been around for decades, and in theory for centuries, have been defined by the tech industry as UX and UI design.

UX design refers to the term “user experience design”, while UI stands for “user interface design”. Both elements are crucial to a product and work closely together. But despite their professional relationship, the roles themselves are quite different, referring to very different aspects of the product development process and the design discipline.

Before we consider the key differences between UX and UI, let’s first define what each term means individually.

What is user experience (UX) design?

User experience design is a human-first way of designing products. Don Norman, a cognitive scientist and co-founder of the Nielsen Norman Group Design Consultancy, is credited with coining the term “user experience” in the late 1990s. Here’s how he describes it:

“User experience encompasses all aspects of the end-user’s interaction with the company, its services, and its products.”

– Don Norman, Cognitive Scientist & User Experience Architect

Clear, right? Well you might note immediately that despite what I implied in the introduction, the definition has no reference to tech, no mention of digital, and doesn’t tell us all that much about what a UX designer actually does. But like all professions, it’s impossible to distill the process from just a few words.

Still, Don Norman’s definition tells us that, regardless of its medium plenty of non-digital UX (and there’s lots out there!) UX Design encompasses any and all interactions between a potential or active customer and a company.

As a scientific process it could be applied to anything; street lamps, cars, Ikea shelving, and so on.

UX and the digital world

However, despite being a scientific term, its use since inception has been almost entirely within digital fields; one reason for this being that the tech industry started blowing up around the time of the term’s invention.

You can learn all about the fascinating history of UX design in this article.

Essentially, UX applies to anything that can be experienced—be it a website, a coffee machine, or a visit to the supermarket. The “user experience” part refers to the interaction between the user and a product or service. User experience design, then, considers all the different elements that shape this experience.

What does UX design involve?

A UX designer thinks about how the experience makes the user feel, and how easy it is for the user to accomplish their desired tasks. They also observe and conduct task analyses to see how users actually complete tasks in a user flow.

For example: How easy is the checkout process when shopping online? How easy is it for you to grip that vegetable peeler? Does your online banking app make it easy for you to manage your money?

The ultimate purpose of UX design is to create easy, efficient, relevant, and all-round pleasant experiences for the user.

We’ll answer the question “What does a UX designer do?” more thoroughly in section four. For now, here’s what you need to know about UX design in a nutshell:

User experience design is the process of developing and improving the quality of interaction between a user and all facets of a company.

User experience design is, in theory, a non-digital (cognitive science) practice, but used and defined predominantly by digital industries.

UX design is NOT about visuals; it focuses on the overall feel of the experience.

What is user interface (UI) design?

Despite it being an older and more practiced field, the question “What is user interface design?” is difficult to answer because of its broad variety of misinterpretations.

While user experience is a conglomeration of tasks focused on the optimization of a product for effective and enjoyable use, user interface design is its complement; the look and feel, the presentation and interactivity of a product.

But like UX, it is easily and often confused by the industries that employ UI designers—to the extent that different job posts will often refer to the profession as completely different things.

If you look at job ads and job descriptions for user interface designers, you will mostly find interpretations of the profession that are akin to graphic design, sometimes extending also to branding design, and even frontend development.

If you look at “expert” definitions of User Interface Design, you will mostly find descriptions that are in part identical to User Experience Design—even referring to the same structural techniques.

So which one is right? The sad answer is: Neither.

UI and the digital world

So let’s set the record straight once and for all. Unlike UX, user interface design is a strictly digital term.

A user interface is the point of interaction between the user and a digital device or product—like the touchscreen on your smartphone, or the touchpad you use to select what kind of coffee you want from the coffee machine.

In relation to websites and apps, UI design considers the look, feel, and interactivity of the product. It’s all about making sure that the user interface of a product is as intuitive as possible, and that means carefully considering each and every visual, interactive element the user might encounter.

A UI designer will think about icons and buttons, typography and color schemes, spacing, imagery, and responsive design.
